Popcornflix works on any device with a browser. It also has apps for devices like FireStick and Roku.
What is Popcornflix?

Popcornflix is a free streaming platform for on-demand movies, shows, and more. It’s 100% legal and safe, offering free content in an ad-supported model.
I mostly use Popcornflix to stream classic movies, especially in the action, horror, mystery, fantasy, and western genres. However, the movie library offers so much more, including recent releases in the romance, drama, and comedy genres.
Free and ad-supported streaming platforms are known for older movies and classics, and that’s what I expected with Popcornflix. I was surprised to find new movies released recently, including some 2024 titles.
I’m a big fan of classic TV shows, including 90s sitcoms, horror classics, and 2000s dramas. This is what drew me to the TV show section of Popcornflix. The site lets me watch full seasons of popular shows in one place. For instance, I recently watched a whole season of Tom Hardy’s 2017 cult thriller, Taboo, on the platform.
For a free service, Popcornflix’s video quality is decent. All the movies and shows I tested streamed in HD quality. I like watching my content with subtitles, so I was impressed that the media player supports closed captions and subtitles.
Popcornflix’s user interface is easy to navigate. I used the Home tab to explore featured titles, new arrivals, Prime TV picks, and other sections. I also found interesting titles using the Movies and TV Shows categories. The search feature is highly responsive, returning results in under a minute.
All things considered, Popcornflix is one of the best sites to watch free movies and TV shows online.
Attention!
ISPs, hackers, and other third-party entities worldwide may monitor your online activities. For security, privacy, and smooth streaming, it is recommended to use a reliable VPN for FireStick. Your IP address is visible to sites you visit.
I use ExpressVPN, a fast and secure VPN in the industry. It is easy to install on any device, including Amazon Fire TV Stick, PC, Mac, and Smartphones. Also, it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you don't like their service, you can always ask for a refund. ExpressVPN also has a special deal where you can get 4 months free and save 73% on the 2-year plan.

Popcornflix Review
I was a bit disappointed when Popcornflix shut down after its parent company filed for bankruptcy in 2024. I did not use Popcornflix very often, but I liked visiting it occasionally for old, forgotten titles.
Thankfully, Popcornflix was acquired by a former investor, and it was relaunched in 2025 after a few months. It’s now available on the official website and the official app. However, the app is only available on the Amazon and Roku app stores. I didn’t find the app on the Google Play Store or Apple Store.
I tested the Popcornflix website on four devices- Amazon FireStick, Android TV, Windows 11, and an Android phone. My best experience was the web version on desktop and the app on FireStick. The interface fit perfectly on both screens, and navigation was easy.
While the web version loaded seamlessly on the TV devices, navigation was flawed. For instance, I noticed some display issues on the FireStick, via the Silk browser. I was unable to scroll to the bottom of the home page to see all the featured categories and titles. It also took a while to select a title and click the play button.
I recommend watching Popcornflix on desktop devices for the best streaming experience. The mobile web version is also decent, though an app would be the best option. Hopefully, the Popcornflix official app will be available on the Google Play and Apple stores in the future, as it’s already doing well on the Amazon and Roku stores.
That said, I loved the app interface more than the web version. The FireStick app was lightweight, fast, and easy to navigate. The main menu features the following sections:
- Search
- Home
- Movies
- TV Shows
- More
The Movies and TV Shows section features top picks from the Popcornflix editor. You can scroll down each tab to see more categories organized by genres like horror, comedy, must-see TV, and cult classics.
Popcornflix doesn’t require an account to watch. There is no option to create one, or even to log in, for personalized recommendations. The only custom setting I found was the ability to clear your recently watched videos.
Browsing Popcornflix and choosing titles to watch is straightforward. Both the app and website provide an overview of a title, including the year of release, summary, cast, runtime, and rating. This is an expected feature for any movie and TV streaming site.
As I mentioned earlier, playback on Popcornflix is smooth and buffer-free, even with average internet speeds. The platform is restricted to the United States. However, it’s compatible with a VPN. I asked a friend in Germany to access it via a VPN, and he was successful.
The built-in media player features most of the aspects required for smooth streaming. These include the volume adjuster, full-screen icon, and closed captions/subtitles. The player lacks an option to adjust the video quality. However, I barely needed it, as most titles stream in HD with no lag whatsoever.
Navigating the content library and finding titles to watch is easy on Popcornflix. You can explore the Home, Movies, and TV Shows sections or use the search feature. I like using the search feature to find content because it’s fast and precise. As you can see in the image below, I got so many results from the keyword ‘mystery’.
I encountered a few ads on Popcornflix, which is understandable for a free streaming service. The ads were minimal and didn’t cause any major interruption during streaming. Overall, Popcornflix is a reliable yet straightforward free streaming service for movies and TV shows.
