Here is our list of sites similar to CouchTuner.
1. Pluto TV
Pluto TV is a free, ad-supported streaming service that offers on-demand movies, shows, and live TV.
I often use Pluto TV when I want something quick to watch. It doesn’t require signing up, but I have signed up anyway because it gives me tailored recommendations, lets me build the watchlist, and allows me to resume on-demand videos on any device.
I have recently rewatched the Men in Black and Underworld movies. I have also added a bunch of titles to my watchlist, including The Godfather, Pulp Fiction, 90210, Jerry Maguire, and Twin Peaks. But the on-demand library is huge, and I have yet to fully explore all categories: Action, Comedy, Halloween Hits, Drama, Crime, Classic, Anime, and more.
The live TV lineup is also massive. And, it is organized in an EPG-style guide. You can easily see what’s on and what’s coming up next. You can watch TV channels in various categories, including news, sports, reality shows, kids’ programs, comedy, and movies. Pluto TV has also added a few live and free channels to its already extensive list.
Pluto TV has over 80 million active users as of April 2023. They haven’t revealed the latest 2025 data yet.
Pros
- Account registration is not required.
- A vast library of free live and on-demand content.
- Decent streaming quality.
Cons
- Ad-supported
- Geo-restricted to a limited number of countries
2. Xumo Play
Xumo Play is another ad-supported streaming service and looks a lot like Pluto TV. It also has on-demand films and series, as well as live TV with an EPG-style layout.
I occasionally use Xumo Play when I want something different from the usual free streaming options. I remember watching Flatliners and The Art of War a few months ago. But I did some digging for this piece and found some interesting titles I may watch soon.
Xumo Play is a good choice if you like classic, niche, and reality television. It also features some popular movies and shows, such as Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Made Men, and Broadchurch.
The live TV section features sports networks like the NFL Network, news channels such as CBS News and LiveNow from Fox, and movie channels like AMC and ION.
I don’t understand why they don’t have a search option. You can only browse through categories. If you want to look up the name of a movie or show, you can’t do that.
Pros
- Free live TV, movies, and TV shows
- No registration is required
- Multi-device compatibility
Cons
- Shows ads
- No search option
3. The Roku Channel
With over 145 million users as of February 2025, The Roku Channel has become more popular than Pluto TV and Xumo Play combined.
The Roku Channel has a massive collection of movies, shows, and even live TV. However, if I had to choose between The Roku Channel, Pluto TV, and Xumo Play, I would go with Pluto TV. That’s because Pluto TV has more content that I like. Of course, that’s just my choice. I recommend trying all three to see which one fits you best.
I recently watched Jack Reacher and Philadelphia on The Roku Channel, but there is a whole lot more left to consider. My watchlist (called Save List on the Roku Channel) is overloaded.
The movie catalog has a strong mix of genres, from thrillers and dramas to comedies and action classics. You can also find full seasons of older TV shows like 24 and Third Rock from the Sun, which makes it feel a bit like browsing cable.
If you are a sports fan, you will find a decent selection too. The Roku Channel streams MLB Sunday Leadoff games and features highlights from leagues like the NBA and Formula E. It also has news, reality shows, and documentaries.
The Roku Channel itself is free and ad-supported. However, they launched an ad-free service, Howdy, in August 2025 for $2.99 per month.
Howdy subscription lets you watch all Roku Channel videos ad-free. It also has its own selection, which isn’t available with the ad-free version.
Pros
- A decent library of free live TV and on-demand videos
- No account required to watch content
- Compatible with multiple devices
Cons
- No new and trending titles
- Shows ads
4. Tubi TV
Tubi TV is one of my favorite free streaming platforms, and I’m not sure whether I use this or Pluto TV more.
I visit Tubi more frequently than most others on this list because its on-demand library of movies and shows is quite large. You will find some older mainstream titles, but there are no recent releases, and major blockbusters are mostly missing. If you enjoy indie films, underrated gems, niche content, and cult classics, you will really have a good time here.
Some of the titles I’ve added to my watchlist include American History X, Flight, Limitless, Whiplash, and Nightcrawler. You can also explore many critically acclaimed Tubi Originals, like Cinnamon, Please Don’t Feed the Children, and UFO Revolution.
I have tried watching Tubi without signing in, and there was no trouble at all. However, I couldn’t update my watchlist, so I signed back in. I recommend creating an account not only for the watchlist but also to get personalized recommendations and the ability to resume playback from where you left off on any device.
Overall, I enjoy the Tubi TV experience. I don’t mind some random ads because the amount and quality of content more than make up for it.
Pros
- Good collection of movies online
- Simple user-interface
- No subscription is required to use the service
- No sign-in is required to use the site
- Available on TV and across other devices
- HD quality streaming and no stream lag
Cons
- Location restrictions – you may need to access the site with a VPN
- It is ad-supported
5. Popcornflix
Just like Filmzie, PopcornFlix isn’t the place to find blockbusters or releases from major studios. If you are into independent films and old and obscure titles from Hollywood and international filmmakers, you can spend hours here.
I used to visit PopcornFlix regularly before it was shut down in July 2024, following its parent company’s bankruptcy filing. When it returned in January 2025, I was glad to see that it retained almost all of its content, especially the parts I was looking forward to watching.
I like it for casual streaming when I can’t figure out what to watch. There are plenty of movies and shows I had never heard of, and some of them have turned out to be surprisingly good. Like I recently watched My Friend Dahmer, which I didn’t even know existed.
You can click the Movies or TV Shows links at the top to browse the content by categories, such as Based on True Stories, Fight Night, Mobster Movies, Unearthly Horrors, Must-See TV, Binge on Action, and TV Classics.
Pros
- Thousands of free movies and TV shows
- Compatible with multiple streaming devices; any device with a web browser will do
- No registration required
Cons
- Ad-supported
- Old movies and TV shows only
6. Sling Freestream
Sling FreeStream is another free, ad-supported streaming service I visit occasionally, especially when I can’t find anything good to watch elsewhere.
I recently watched two of my all-time favorites, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Point Break, on FreeStream. But the on-demand section has hundreds of other movies and TV shows to explore.
FreeStream also offers free live TV under the Guide section. You can watch channels, such as BBC News, CBS News, AMC Thrillers, and Reb Bull TV.
Pros
- Free live TV, movies, and TV shows
- No account required
- High-quality streams
Cons
- Ad supported
- Limited library
7. Filmzie
I had heard of Filmzie but had never actually used it until I was researching for a piece on Couchtuner alternatives. Let me share what I discovered.
It is completely free and ad-supported. You can start watching without even signing in. Of course, by signing up, you can resume videos on any device, save your watchlist and favorites, and get personalized recommendations.
I didn’t mind the ad interruptions during playback much, since I expected them as part of free streaming, but the ads and pop-ups on the website are a bit annoying.
I haven’t watched anything on Filmzie yet. I only played a few titles for a few minutes just to test playback. I have added a couple of movies and shows to the Watch Later list.
If you are looking for mainstream movies from major production houses, you won’t find many here. But if you enjoy offbeat, lesser-known, underrated indie content, Filmzie might surprise you with some interesting finds.
You can browse content in various categories, including Action, Adventure, Drama, Crime, Documentary, and Horror.
Pros
- Free on-demand content
- No user account is required
- A diverse range of movies and TV shows
Cons
- Ad-supported
- Mainly older movies and shows
8. Fawesome
When I searched for sites to watch free movies and TV shows online legally, Fawesome appeared in the suggested results. I gave it a try, and in my experience, it is safe, legal, and trustworthy. What I like is that it offers a vast library of on-demand titles across genres such as comedy, romance, fantasy, crime, action, drama, and westerns.
The Fawesome team keeps the library up to date and adds new titles daily. So you will always have something to watch: an interesting movie or show that piques your interest. I found many critically acclaimed films, such as Collateral and The Aviator, and an impressive collection of Westerns, including Eldorado and The Duel.
It is available both on the website and as an application available on official app stores, which I appreciate. I like the user interface, which is clean and easy to navigate. I also like how it displays metadata, including the release year, runtime, film rating, and plot summary, which is quite helpful.
Pros
- A vast library of movies, TV shows, biographies, and documentaries
- No registration required
- Multi-device support
Cons
- Shows ads
9. Midnight Pulp
When I discovered Midnight Pulp, I realized that it is not your regular movie and TV show streaming site. I found out that it leans upon strange content, such as cults, horror, mystery, dark humor, and even adult films. I discovered titles I had never heard of or movies that hardly appear on mainstream platforms.
I was surprised by how strong its traffic and user base are, which probably explains why the developers recently introduced a premium tier. Previously, every movie and show was available for free to all registered users.
Most of the titles are behind a paywall, but I still found plenty of free movies and TV shows. However, you still need to register for a free account to watch the free content.
If you are into strange horror and offbeat films, I recommend you give it a try. However, let me warn you that you will find all kinds of weirdness, and it may seem excessive.
Pros
- Decent library of free movies and TV shows
- High-quality streams
- Free to use
Cons
- Shows ads
- Content is limited to strange genres like cults, horror, and mystery
10. Plex
I learned a bit late that Plex is not only a media player that organizes media files on your device, but it also offers free online content. You can watch movies, shows, and more. In fact, it also has a Live TV section.
Like most other platforms, you can watch Plex even when you’re signed out. Signing in will help with recommendations, resume from where you left off, and maintain a watchlist.
It is an ad-supported platform, but the interruptions are minimal. I have found some interesting titles here, including Dawson’s Creek, Under the Skin, and Weeds.
Pros
- A decent library of quality movies and TV shows
- High-quality videos, some in HD
- The content library is updated regularly
Cons
- Plex is ad-supported
11. Fandango at Home
Fandango at Home was previously known as Vudu. It is a digital movie renting and buying platform. You can also purchase movie tickets on this platform.
I included Fandango at Home on this list because it offers a section featuring free ad-supported movies and TV shows. It’s not a vast library, but it’s enough for someone looking for free entertainment online.
I’ve discovered some popular blockbusters and hit movies on this platform, so don’t underestimate its value.
Pros
- Free movies and TV shows
- Decent streaming quality
Cons
- Registration required
- Ad supported
12. Kanopy
I have been using Kanopy for a while now, and I can say that it is one of the best streaming platforms. I first discovered it through my local library, and the best part is that all I needed was my library card to sign up and get access to hundreds of high-quality movies, documentaries, and TV shows. I found many award-winning, critically acclaimed, popular, and foreign-language films and shows on Kanopy, all for free.
It is an educational website that focuses not just on entertainment but also on great content that actually makes you think. If you have a library card or a student account from a participating public library or university, I would absolutely recommend checking out Kanopy.
Kanopy can be accessed on the official website or by installing the Kanopy application on compatible devices, including smart TVs, Android TV boxes, streaming sticks, tablets, and smartphones. I usually watch it through the Kanopy app on my smart TV. With its easy interface, well-organized categories, and meaningful content, it is worth trying.
Pros
- A vast library of free movies, TV shows, documentaries, and other on-demand videos
- Ad-free content
- High-quality HD streams
Cons
- Registration is required
- Only accessible via participating libraries and schools
13. Hoopla
I have been using Hoopla (also called Hoopla Digital) for the last couple of years. It is an educational platform that offers free on-demand content. Like Kanopy, I accessed Hoopla with my library card. You can also sign in with your library card, and if you are a student, you can use your details from a participating college or university to log in.
Hoopla offers more content than Kanopy, and I appreciate the variety it provides. Besides free movies, TV shows, and documentaries, it also offers audiobooks, e-books, comics, and music. You can even listen to music albums on this site. I sometimes use Hoopla as a “record store browse’ substitute, and some of my favorites are unexpected finds. I also borrowed many graphic novels and listened to audiobooks such as ‘Educated’.
You can access the site online via a web browser. I prefer streaming from the app, available on the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, or Amazon App Store.
Pros
- Free on-demand content
- A diverse range of content from movies and shows to books and music
- Ad-free
Cons
- Registration is required
- Only accessible via participating libraries and schools
14. YouTube
I have been using YouTube for years now, and it is my go-to platform for almost all kinds of video content, from free videos, music videos, and vlogs to movies, TV shows, and video series. What I love most is how diverse and accessible it is. I found many mainstream movies, as well as independent films and creative works by emerging filmmakers. I stumbled on many great short movies and international productions that I wouldn’t find anywhere else.
YouTube offers a diverse library of foreign-language productions, so if you are into foreign-language cinema, it’s definitely worth a try.
The Movies and TV section is like a mini streaming service that lets you buy and rent premium movies and shows, including those that have just completed their theater runs. You will also find free movies with ads. I have rented a few movies, and the streaming quality is good. I recommend exploring beyond the usual because the more you explore, the more interesting it gets.
Pros
- Free movies, TV shows, and other on-demand content
- No registration required
- High-quality streams
Cons
- Its ad-supported
15. Amazon Prime Video
I used Amazon FreeVee quite a lot for free movies and shows, and its shutdown was a disappointment. But I later found out that all its content has been integrated into Amazon Prime, which is available for free with ads, even without a Prime subscription.
I was glad to see that this Free-with-Ads section also includes some popular Amazon originals, such as The Rings of Power, Jack Ryan, The Underground Railroad, Gen V, Jack Reacher, and even The Boys. However, not all seasons are free. For instance, you will need the Prime Subscription to watch Season 4 of The Boys.
Another thing I like about the service is that the ad breaks are reasonable and well-timed, pretty much like traditional TV. Although the collection is quite amazing, it includes classic to modern movies with high-quality streaming.
Pros
- A vast library of on-demand content
- Free movies and shows
- Compatible with multiple devices
Cons
- Shows ads
- The free content is limited
You’re all set. A quick reminder: your internet provider and many websites/apps can see your IP address and some details about your connection. Using a VPN encrypts your traffic and masks your IP address, thereby helping to protect your online privacy.
I recommend ExpressVPN. It’s a reputable VPN with strong encryption and fast connections, and it’s straightforward to install on all devices.
Step 1: Subscribe to ExpressVPN HERE. It comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Meaning, you can use it free for the first 30 days, and if you are not satisfied with the performance (which is highly unlikely), you can ask for a full refund.
Step 2: Download and install ExpressVPN on your device.
Step 3: Open the app and enter the login credentials you created while buying the ExpressVPN subscription. Click Sign in.
Step 4: Click the Power icon to connect to a VPN server. That’s all. Your connection is now secure with the fastest and best VPN.
