The Venom Kodi Addon is often cited as a popular choice among Kodi users looking for free access to movies and TV shows.
At first glance, it seems convenient and easy to use, but beneath the surface, the Venom addon on Kodi carries serious legal and security risks.
Users frequently encounter broken links, buffering, and other reliability issues.
This article explains why installing the Venom Kodi addon is not recommended and highlights the dangers associated with it.

What is Venom Kodi Addon?
The Venom Kodi Addon is a third-party plugin that provides access to a wide range of movies and TV shows by scraping streams from various unofficial websites.
It is a fork of the popular Covenant addon, offering a modern interface and improved playback options.
However, it is important to note that the addon does not have any licensing agreements to distribute copyrighted material. This makes it an unverified and potentially unsafe source for streaming content.
For Kodi Users!
ISPs, hackers, and other third-party entities worldwide may monitor your online activities. For security, privacy, and smooth streaming, it is recommended to use a reliable VPN for Kodi. Your IP address is visible to sites you visit.
I recommend ExpressVPN, a fast and secure VPN in the industry. It is very easy to install on any device, including Amazon Fire TV Stick, PC, Mac, and Smartphones. Also, it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you're not satisfied with their service, you can request a refund. ExpressVPN also has a special deal where you can get 4 months free and save 73% on the 2-year plan.
Why Venom Kodi Addon is Illegal
Using the Venom addon on Kodi can put users at legal risk. The addon relies on third-party websites that provide copyrighted content without permission. Accessing or streaming such content is considered copyright infringement in many countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and EU nations.
Violating copyright law can lead to serious consequences, including fines or other legal action.
Even though the addon itself does not host content, it functions as a portal to illegal streams. Legal experts and forums consistently warn that using the Venom Kodi addon falls into a gray area that carries potential liability. Simply installing or using the addon may expose users to copyright violations.
Security Risks and Privacy Concerns
Beyond legality, Venom Kodi addon presents several security risks:
- Malware and intrusive ads: Streams often come from sources that inject pop-ups or malicious scripts, putting users’ devices at risk.
- Data exposure: Some links attempt to access personal information or system data without permission.
- Unverified sources: As a third-party addon, Venom is not officially maintained or verified. Updates may be unreliable or could introduce malicious code.
These risks are especially concerning for FireStick, Android TV, or devices with sensitive data. Installing Venom is not just a legal risk but also a security threat.
Unreliability and User Experience Issues
Many users report frustrating experiences when using the Venom Kodi addon, including:
- Broken links: Many streams fail to load, causing repeated frustration.
- Buffering problems: Even functional streams can have frequent buffering due to poor source quality.
- Frequent downtime: Anti-piracy actions often result in repositories going offline unexpectedly.
- Compatibility issues: Updates may not work with newer Kodi versions, causing further technical problems.
These factors make the addon unreliable for consistent streaming. Users on forums and Reddit consistently report disappointment, highlighting that the “free” content often comes with too many hassles and risks.
User Reports and Forum Insights
Community feedback emphasizes the risks and limitations of the Venom addon on Kodi:
- Previously working links often stop functioning without warning.
- Some streams redirect users to potentially unsafe websites or show intrusive ads.
- Finding trustworthy repositories for installation is challenging.
Even experienced users with antivirus protection face issues keeping the addon safe and functional, reinforcing the fact that it is neither verified nor reliable.
Legal and Safe Alternatives
For those looking to stream movies, TV shows, or sports legally, there are many safe alternatives that avoid the risks of the Venom Kodi addon:
- Netflix: Offers a large library of movies and TV shows with official Kodi addons for integration.
- Disney+: Provides legal streaming of movies, series, and original content.
- Amazon Prime Video: Safe, licensed content with Kodi integration available.
- Hulu: Legal streaming of TV shows, movies, and live content (U.S. only).
- ESPN+ and FuboTV: Licensed sports streaming options that are secure and reliable.
These platforms offer peace of mind, reliable streams, and security without the legal or technical risks of unverified third-party addons like Venom.
Conclusion
The Venom Kodi Addon may appear tempting as a free option for movies and TV shows, but it is illegal, unsafe, and unreliable. Users face legal consequences, malware risks, broken links, and frequent buffering. Its unverified sources and inconsistent updates make it unsuitable for anyone seeking stable streaming.
Instead of risking your devices and legal standing, stick to official and licensed addons or streaming services. They provide a secure, reliable, and worry-free viewing experience.
Bottom line: Avoid Venom addon on Kodi entirely and use legal alternatives for safe and uninterrupted streaming.

I’m stuck on step 7. I have the venom downloaded but when I go to install from zip file it won’t let me install it. Helpppp
Hi John, it worked for me on both Kodi 19 and Kodi 18. Please try again. You may have experienced a temporary issue.
Now I’m stuck. I downloaded Kodi and I think I downloaded Real Debrid because I paid for a premium membership and activated it. But now I am unable to maneuver the site. I don’t know what other addons I’m going to need and I don’t know how to install them. Plus I can’t figure out how to go to a place I can search for a TV show or movie and how to make it play.
Hi Paul, which version of Kodi are you using? Are you trying to use Real Debrid with the Venom addon? I hadn’t read this comment of yours when I replied to your latest comment earlier.
Real Debrid is no longer supported by Venom or anyone else on the Kodi site except maybe YouTube as far as I can see. Also URL Resolver seems to be gone too.
Hi Rod, Real Debrid is working with the Venom addon. I just checked. Open the addon and go to Premium Services > Real Debrid to set it up. You do not need to configure URL Resolver for RD to work with the Venom addon.
What is a Debrid account? It is asking for an account setup before I can play movies or TV shows on venom
Hi Eli, here is everything you need to know: https://www.firesticktricks.com/real-debrid-kodi.html
Whenever i click on a TV show or movie I get permission_denied and unknown resource. How do i fix this?
Hi Andrew, there’s been some issues with this addon recently. You may try one of the other working addons from here: https://www.firesticktricks.com/best-kodi-addons.html
Hello,
I’m having some trouble with both venom and exodus redux. I’ve installed covenant but the url described is not showing at the bottom, I have urllib3 there instead. I’ve also set up a real debrid account. No streams play on exodus or venom, venom reads no ip available whenever I try anything. Tempest is working fine.
Hi James, if the existing addons aren’t working for you, you may try other addons. Here is our list: https://www.firesticktricks.com/best-kodi-addons.html
hey I downloaded real Debrid and now I’m seeing the list of available streams which are hundreds but everytime I click one it takes about 35 seconds of loading and then it just says no stream available everytime still.
Hi Gino, I am not entirely sure why this is happening. It should work fine with RD. You may try other addons from our list: https://www.firesticktricks.com/best-kodi-addons.html
Hey Max, I am just learning the ropes here. I have the same problem, that is, I can’t find Venom after loading Titanium. If I click on The big K (Kodi) it sends me straight to Titanium, and I never see the Kodi home screen at all
Hi Ralph, when you install a Kodi build, it takes over the default Kodi home screen. You get a completely new home screen. You could go to the Video Addons section within the build where you will find all the installed addons. If the venom addon doesn’t come preinstalled with the Titanium Build, you could install it separately. Try this guide: https://www.firesticktricks.com/install-kodi-addons-on-builds.html

Hi Daffy, uninstall and reinstall the Venom addon (or uninstall and reinstall Kodi itself if needed). Also, the Venom addon will only work with Real Debrid now. Here is our guide on how to set up and use Real Debrid: https://www.firesticktricks.com/real-debrid-kodi.html
I downloaded it and once I try to watch anything I click on it, and it goes through and is looking for sources or whatever and then once it’s done it just says it removed how ever many duplicate sources and then says no source available for everything I click on it does the same thing.
Hi Gino, Venom addon now works only with Real Debrid. I am updating the guide with the info. Here is our article which will help you sign up for and use Real Debrid: https://www.firesticktricks.com/real-debrid-kodi.html
