If you’ve been around the Kodi community for a while, you’ve likely heard about the Covenant Kodi addon.
This addon was once considered a go-to solution for streaming movies and TV shows through Kodi’s interface.
However, the landscape has changed significantly, and Covenant’s current state tells a very different story.
Note: This article is purely educational and doesn’t support or encourage accessing copyrighted content illegally. Instead, we’ll examine what Covenant actually is, its current functionality, and why legal alternatives have become the better choice in 2025.
What Is the Covenant Kodi Addon?
Covenant was designed as a comprehensive streaming addon for Kodi, originally developed to succeed other popular addons in the community.
The addon scraped various sources across the internet to provide streaming links for movies and TV shows, presenting them through a user-friendly interface complete with movie posters, episode listings, and ratings.
The addon gained popularity by promising access to extensive content libraries without requiring multiple streaming service subscriptions.
Users could browse content by categories, search for specific titles, and stream directly through their Kodi installation.
However, most content accessible through Covenant consisted of copyrighted material available without proper licensing, creating legal concerns for users and making it an unofficial, third-party solution rather than an authorized streaming service.
For Kodi Users!
ISPs, hackers, and other third-party entities worldwide may monitor your online activities. For security, privacy, and smooth streaming, it is recommended to use a reliable VPN for Kodi. Your IP address is visible to sites you visit.
I recommend ExpressVPN, a fast and secure VPN in the industry. It is very easy to install on any device, including Amazon Fire TV Stick, PC, Mac, and Smartphones. Also, it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you're not satisfied with their service, you can request a refund. ExpressVPN also has a special deal where you can get 4 months free and save 73% on the 2-year plan.

Current State of Covenant in 2025
The reality of Covenant today differs dramatically from its peak years. The original development team abandoned the project several years ago, leaving behind only broken forks and outdated copies that function poorly or not at all.
Current technical issues include:
- Broken functionality: Most installation sources have gone offline permanently. The few remaining repositories contain outdated code that’s incompatible with recent Kodi versions.
- Unreliable streaming: When installations do work, users consistently report broken links, constant buffering, and streams that fail to load entirely.
- Security vulnerabilities: Without active maintenance, the addon’s code contains unpatched security holes that could expose devices to malware and other threats.
- Compatibility problems: Modern Kodi installations often reject Covenant entirely due to deprecated dependencies and coding practices.
These issues have made Covenant largely unusable for its intended purpose, transforming what was once a popular addon into a source of frustration for users attempting installation or use.
Rise and Fall: Why Covenant’s Popularity Didn’t Last
To understand the rise and fall of Covenant, we need to know about the streaming landscape when it first gained traction. During its peak years, legal streaming options were limited and expensive. Netflix had smaller libraries, Disney+ didn’t exist, and cable TV remained costly with inflexible packages.
In this environment, Covenant offered an appealing alternative. It aggregated content from multiple sources into a single, organized platform. The interface was easy to use, with navigation similar to legitimate streaming platforms, which looked familiar.
However, several factors contributed to its decline:
- Expanding legal options: The streaming market exploded with new services offering competitive pricing and extensive libraries, reducing the appeal of unofficial alternatives.
- Increased legal pressure: Authorities began targeting addon developers and repository hosts more aggressively, causing many popular sources to shut down permanently.
- Reliability issues: As legitimate sources disappeared and developers moved on, Covenant became unreliable. People have to spend more time troubleshooting than watching content.
- Security concerns: Abandoned code is always a target for malicious actors looking to exploit unpatched vulnerabilities.
Legal and Security Risks Of Using Covenant
Using Covenant or similar unofficial addons in 2025 involves several significant risks:
- Legal consequences: Users face potential DMCA notices, ISP warnings, or legal action depending on their country’s copyright enforcement policies. Internet service providers increasingly monitor for pirated content streaming, and enforcement has become more aggressive.
- Security vulnerabilities: Unmaintained code provides entry points for malicious software. Users have reported everything from cryptocurrency miners to data harvesting malware being distributed through compromised addon repositories.
- Privacy concerns: Unofficial addons typically lack transparent privacy policies, leaving you uncertain about what data is collected and how it’s used. Some users have discovered their viewing habits are being tracked and sold without consent.
- Performance problems: Even functional streams often suffer from poor quality, frequent buffering, and unexpected interruptions, resulting in a frustrating viewing experience.
Legal Streaming Alternatives
Many legal streaming alternatives are available. Rather than dealing with unreliable unofficial addons, consider these legitimate options:
- Free legal services have expanded significantly. Tubi TV offers thousands of movies and shows with ad support, while Pluto TV provides both live channels and on-demand content. Both services offer official Kodi addons that work reliably.
- Subscription services like Netflix and Disney+ provide high-quality streaming with guaranteed reliability and customer support.
- Library partnerships often include free access to streaming services like Kanopy or Hoopla through your local library card, offering quality documentaries and films at no additional cost.

Frequently Asked Questions
Covenant itself is software, but using it to access copyrighted content without permission violates copyright laws in most countries and could result in legal consequences.
While some repositories may still host Covenant copies, most installations fail due to outdated code and broken dependencies. Even successful installations typically don't function properly.
Yes, but we recommend focusing on legal alternatives like Tubi TV, Pluto TV, and other legitimate streaming services that offer official Kodi addons.
Consequences vary by location but can include DMCA notices from your ISP, internet service warnings, throttled connections, or legal action in severe cases.
The original developers abandoned the project, repository hosts shut down due to legal pressure, and the code became outdated and incompatible with modern Kodi versions.
No, downloading from unofficial sources increases the risk of malware, as there's no way to verify the code hasn't been modified with malicious intent.
Bottom Line
In my opinion, the Covenant addon is outdated, unreliable, and carries unnecessary legal and security risks, and is not worth your time in 2025. Legal streaming services now provide better, safer, and more reliable options.
At present, there are numerous legitimate alternatives that deliver superior viewing experiences, and the plus point is that you don’t have to face technical problems, security vulnerabilities, or legal concerns associated with unofficial addons. Modern legal streaming services provide the content variety and convenience that originally made Covenant appealing, but with guaranteed functionality and proper licensing.
If you are considering Kodi as your streaming solution, focus on the many excellent legal addons available today. They offer the reliability and peace of mind that outdated unofficial addons simply cannot match.

Hi Gabriel, try the Kodil repo. You can download it from http://www.lvtvv.com/repo/
Found it! FYI…the small round icon with the tiny changing picture inside of it which WAS plaguing the right side of my screen has been identified! It was originating from my ES File Explorer File Manager under settings. It’s called a Logger floating widget which appears when a new file is created, now UNCHECKED. Sorry to bother you with it. Cheers & Happy 2019
Hi Tommy, I probably couldn’t have figured it was the Logger Floating Widget. Thanks for letting me know.
Making house calls sounds like a good marketable idea. But, we are just some regular FireStick and Kodi users sharing our experiences with you. We don’t have the logistics or resources for such venture.
Happy 2019 to you too and feel free to get back to us if you have any further questions.
